Frequently asked questions
Getting started
What does Glimpot do?
Glimpot rewrites your Shopify product pages so AI search tools can understand and recommend them. It writes a new product description, page title and meta description, image alt text, and a set of buyer questions and answers — all in your brand’s voice, based on your actual product data. You review everything before anything goes live.
What is GEO?
GEO stands for generative engine optimization. It’s the same idea as SEO, but for AI answer tools instead of the classic list of blue links. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for “a good beginner snowboard,” those tools read product pages and decide which ones to mention. GEO is the work of making your pages clear and complete enough to get picked.
How is this different from SEO?
Traditional SEO is mostly about ranking in a list of search results. AI tools don’t rank — they read pages and summarize an answer, often citing only a handful of sources. That rewards pages that answer real buyer questions directly and state product facts plainly, which is what Glimpot writes for.
Which AI tools does this help with?
The main ones people use to shop: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews. Glimpot doesn’t have a special relationship with any of them — it improves your pages so that any AI tool reading them has better material to work with.
Do I need to know anything technical?
No. You connect your Shopify store, tell Glimpot a bit about your brand, and pick which products to work on. Everything happens inside Glimpot and your Shopify admin.
Who is Glimpot for?
Businesses. Glimpot is a commercial tool for people running a store — it isn’t intended for personal use, and you need to be 18 or older to open an account.
Does Glimpot work with non-English stores?
Not yet. Glimpot generates product content in English, and its quality scoring is calibrated for English — so the copy it produces for a non-English catalogue would not be usable. Support for other languages is on the roadmap.
How it works
What exactly does Glimpot change on my product page?
Five things: the product description, the page title used by search engines, the meta description, the alt text on your product images, and a set of frequently asked questions about the product. Nothing else on your store is touched.
Will Glimpot change my live store automatically?
No. Glimpot writes the new content and holds it for you to review. It only reaches your live store when you click Publish. Nothing is published without you.
Can I edit what Glimpot writes?
Yes. Every field is editable on the review screen before you publish. You can rewrite a sentence, tweak the title, adjust a question — whatever you want — and then publish your edited version.
Should I check the content before publishing?
Yes, and it matters. AI-written copy can get details wrong — a specification it inferred, a claim that isn’t quite right for your product, or wording that doesn’t suit a regulated category. You’re responsible for what goes on your store, so read it before you publish. That’s exactly why the review step exists rather than publishing straight through.
What if I don’t like the result?
You can regenerate it. Glimpot asks what you’d like changed — a different angle, shorter copy, more focus on benefits, more structure — plus anything you want to type in yourself. It then writes a fresh version that’s deliberately different from the first. A regeneration uses one credit, the same as a new optimization.
What happens to my existing product description?
When you publish, Glimpot replaces the description, page title, meta description, and image alt text on that product. Your previous content is saved first. Products you don’t publish are left completely alone.
Can I undo a publish?
Yes, for 48 hours. Open the product in Glimpot and choose “Restore original content” — it puts back everything Glimpot changed, exactly as it was before. After 48 hours the restore option expires. One thing to know: if you’ve edited that product in Shopify since publishing, restoring will replace those edits too.
How long until I see results?
There’s no fixed timeline, and anyone promising one is guessing. AI tools re-read pages on their own schedule, so changes take time to show up — usually weeks, not days. Glimpot’s job is to make sure that when they do read your page, it’s in the best possible shape.
Will Glimpot guarantee my products get recommended by AI?
No, and be careful with anyone who says otherwise. No tool controls what ChatGPT or Perplexity decide to cite, and we don’t promise any particular ranking, citation, traffic, or sales result. What Glimpot does is remove the reasons your page gets skipped: vague descriptions, missing details, and no answers to the questions buyers actually ask.
Who owns the content Glimpot writes?
You do. The content generated for your account is yours to use, edit, and publish however you like.
Is my product data used to train AI models?
No. Glimpot generates your content using a third-party AI provider, and that provider is contractually prohibited from training models on your data. We don’t use your store data, product content, or brand voice to train anything either. Our provider’s published policy is also to delete what’s sent to them within 30 days. Where your data is stored and who else handles it is covered in our Privacy Policy.
Credits and billing
What is a credit?
One credit optimizes one product. That covers everything Glimpot writes for that product — description, page title, meta description, image alt text, and the Q&A — in a single pass.
Do I get anything free to start?
Yes. New accounts start with 3 free credits, so you can try Glimpot on a few products before deciding anything. No card needed to sign up.
Do credits expire?
Yes, but generously, and buying more resets the clock on your whole balance. Credits stay valid for 12 months from your most recent purchase, or 24 months if you bought a Scale pack. Every new purchase extends the expiry date on all the credits you’re holding, not just the new ones. We’ll email you before anything expires.
How do I buy credits?
Right now, credits are added by our team rather than through a checkout. Send a request through the contact form — tell us your store domain and which pack you want — and we’ll get you set up and reply within a couple of business days.
What if an optimization fails?
You don’t pay for it. Credits are held when a job starts and only charged when it finishes successfully. If something goes wrong on our side, the credit goes back to your balance.
Does reviewing or editing cost extra?
No. Reviewing, editing, and publishing are all included in the one credit for that product. Only generating new content — a first optimization or a regeneration — uses a credit.
Can I get a refund on unused credits?
No. Credit purchases are final, and unused credits aren’t refundable or transferable — including if they expire or if you close your account. The one exception is if we ever permanently shut the service down, in which case we’d give notice and sort out recently purchased credits fairly.
Brand voice
What is brand voice setup?
It’s a short form where you tell Glimpot how your brand sounds: your brand name, the tone you want, who you’re writing for, words you always or never want used, and what makes your products different. You can also paste in a couple of product descriptions you’re happy with as examples.
Do I have to fill it in?
Only your brand name is required. The rest is optional, but the more you give Glimpot, the more the copy sounds like you rather than generic product writing.
Can I change it later?
Yes, any time, in settings. Changes apply to products you optimize afterwards — anything you’ve already published stays as it is until you optimize it again.
Your Shopify store
Which platforms does Glimpot work with?
Shopify. Support for other platforms is planned but not available yet.
Can I connect more than one store?
Not yet — it’s one Shopify store per Glimpot account. If you run several stores, you’d need a separate account for each one. Multi-store support is on our list.
What access does Glimpot need to my store?
Permission to read your products and write updates back to them. Glimpot doesn’t touch orders, customers, payments, or your theme. The exact permissions are shown on Shopify’s installation screen when you connect.
Does Glimpot see my customers’ information?
No. We don’t ask Shopify for access to your customer records, and we don’t store anything about the people who buy from you.
Will this affect my theme or slow my site down?
No. Glimpot updates the content in your product fields, the same way you would if you edited them in Shopify yourself. It doesn’t install anything into your theme or add scripts to your storefront.
Why do some of my products produce generic-sounding copy?
Because there wasn’t much to work with. If a product has only a title and a short description, there are few real details to write about, and Glimpot won’t invent specifications it can’t verify. Adding details in Shopify — dimensions, materials, use cases, either as metafields or in the description — makes a noticeable difference. Glimpot flags products with limited data before you spend a credit on them.
Leaving, pausing, and coming back
What’s the difference between disconnecting, uninstalling, and deleting my account?
Three different things, and they’re easy to confuse:
| Action | What happens | Your credits |
|---|---|---|
| Disconnect your store (in Glimpot settings) | Glimpot stops talking to Shopify. Your product catalogue is cleared from Glimpot, but your brand voice and any content you’ve generated stay. | Kept |
| Uninstall Glimpot (from your Shopify admin) | Shopify tells us to erase your store’s data, and we do — catalogue, brand voice, generated content, and publishing history. Your account itself stays open. | Kept |
| Delete your account (in Glimpot settings) | Everything goes, permanently. | Forfeited |
In all three cases, content you’ve already published stays on your Shopify store. It’s yours.
If I uninstall Glimpot from Shopify, is my account closed?
No. Uninstalling ends the connection to your store; it doesn’t close your Glimpot account. If you come back in six months, you sign in, reconnect your store, and any credits you still have are waiting for you — subject to the normal expiry dates.
What won’t be waiting is your store data. About 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to erase everything describing your store, and we do: your product catalogue, your brand voice settings, any generated content you hadn’t published, and your publishing history. So when you come back you’d set up brand voice again from scratch.
If you’d rather keep your brand voice for later, disconnect your store in Glimpot settings instead of uninstalling — that keeps it.
Why do you keep my account and credits after I uninstall?
Because uninstalling isn’t the same as saying you’re done with us. Your credit balance is something you paid for, and we hold it for you rather than making you ask for it back. We also keep the financial record of what you bought, because Canadian tax and accounting law requires us to — that record is about the transaction, not about your store.
How do I delete my account?
In Glimpot, go to Settings → Account and use Delete account. You’ll be asked for your password and to type DELETE to confirm. It’s immediate and can’t be undone: your brand voice, optimization history, publishing records, and any remaining credits are all removed. Glimpot is also removed from your Shopify store.
Content you already published stays on your store — deleting your Glimpot account doesn’t touch it.
What survives after I delete my account?
Only the financial record of any purchases you made — what you bought, when, and for how much. Canadian tax and accounting law requires businesses to keep those records for several years, so we can’t erase them on request. Everything about your store and your content is gone.
Can I get my data deleted without deleting my account?
Yes. Email our Privacy Officer at legal@glimpot.com and we’ll handle it. You can also ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw consent.
