GEO score guide

How AI search decides which products to show — and how your score works

Your GEO score measures how ready each of your products is to be the one an AI answer names.

Your GEO score is a 0–100 measure of how likely your product is to be one of the few an AI answer recommends.

What the score actually measures

AI engines don’t pick products because the writing is pretty. They pick products they can understand and trust — pages where the details are clear, specific, and tied to real facts the engine can repeat with confidence. Your GEO score rewards exactly that. It comes down to three things:

Can it be read?

Is there a real, substantial description — and clear answers to the questions buyers actually ask — written in a format AI engines parse cleanly? Thin or empty product copy is invisible to AI search.

Can it be trusted?

Does the copy name real, specific facts about the product — the brand, the type, the material, the use case — rather than vague filler? Specifics are what an engine can confidently cite. This is the biggest part of your score.

Is it complete?

Search-engine title and summary present and well-sized, every image described, and your brand’s voice intact. The finishing details that signal a page is properly maintained.

The one idea that matters most: specifics

If you remember one thing, remember this. An AI engine recommending a product is putting its credibility on the line — so it strongly favours products described with concrete, verifiable detail over ones described in generic language. Glimpot’s writing is built to do that, but it can only work with the details your store actually provides.

Same product, two ways of describing it

✕ Vague

“A great board for any rider looking for quality and performance.”

Nothing here an AI can tie to a fact. No brand, no type, no material, no use case. The engine has nothing specific to repeat — so it stays quiet.

✓ Specific

“The Ridgeline Drift is an all-mountain snowboard with a poplar core, built for intermediate riders on groomed runs.”

Brand, type, material, skill level, terrain — all concrete facts an engine can confidently cite when a shopper asks for exactly this.

Glimpot automatically writes in the specific style — but the factsit weaves in have to exist in your product data first. That’s the one place your input changes everything.

Optimising a product rewrites all five fields — description, page title, meta description, image alt text and a buyer-question Q&A — to be as readable and citable as possible. The full list of what changes on your page is on the home page.

Why a score might stay low — and how to lift it

Sometimes a product scores lower than you’d expect even after optimising. Almost always, the reason is the same: there wasn’t enough product detail to work with. Glimpot can write beautifully, but it can’t invent facts your store hasn’t recorded. If a product has no brand, no type, and no tags, there’s nothing specific for an AI engine to latch onto — and the score honestly reflects that.

The single most effective fix

Add more detail to the product in Shopify, then re-optimise. Every field you fill in gives Glimpot — and the AI engines — another real fact to work with:

  • Vendor / brand
  • Product type
  • Tags
  • Collections
  • Materials & specs

This is usually the difference between a product that sits in the middle of the range and one that lands near the top.

What the numbers mean

Illustrative example — not a real result

24

Before — raw product

88

After — optimised & detailed

Most products start low— often in the teens or twenties — because raw Shopify content lacks the structure and specifics AI search needs. That’s normal, and it’s the point: it’s the before. A well-optimised product with good detail typically lands in the 70s–90s. The jump between the two is the work Glimpot does — and the score makes that improvement visible, product by product.

The short version

AI search recommends products it can read, trust, and cite. Glimpot rewrites every product to be all three — and your score climbs highest when your product data gives it real, specific facts to work with. Optimise to do the writing; enrich your product details to win the citation.
